Blogmopolitan Quiz

Well we have embarked on our adventure back to Kansas... please pray all goes smoothly with an almost 4 month old and a 4 year old dog.  We are crazy.. but it will totally be worth it once we get there!

I've had this quiz sitting on my to-do list a while now.  It's old, and it went around forever ago, but who said you can't join the party late?!

For the original template please visit here.

Epic failure... this post was supposed to go live the 14th of this month... as in 2 and a half weeks ago.  Obviously it didn't.  So I just disappeared and nobody knew what happened (unless you follow me on Instagram!)... good news folks.  We survived our one day shy of 2 week adventure back to the midwest.  I will have a giant wrap up post first thing next week.  Needless to say I am most definitely still recovering from all that traveling.

Happy weekend, and hope everyone had a fabulous Memorial Day!

Mother's Day.

Happy Mother's Day to all my blog friends!
To your mamas, the ones who have their own kiddos and the fur-mamas!
Today I celebrate all of you!
This year is (obviously) really special for me as I get to celebrate being a mama to my sweet Grace for the first year in a row.  It means a lot to me.  I feel like I was meant to be a mother.  I didn't know it before.  I didn't particularly dream it before.  But now?!  Now I know it.

That little girl has made my life come full circle.  She's the center of my world and I am so proud to call her mine.

Today I am going to hug my sweet baby a little closer and thank God for all of the blessings he has given me today, among every day.
My mother and Grace-meeting each other.
January 25th, 2014.
Grace's birth day.
I'm also going to Skype with my mama, as I miss her extra hard on days like today.  I'm so incredibly thankful for her.  She's shown me so much in life, most importantly, how to mother.  I don't know what I would do without her... and while I can't be with her today, I hope she knows just how much I love her.  Happy Mother's Day MOM!

I hope you have a wonderful Sunday!

Military Spouse Appreciation Day |Blog Hop|

Happy Military Spouse Appreciation Day to all of my wonderful blog (and real life) friends!

I'm a fan of today.

Because it is a day where the country recognizes the military spouses of our great armed forces.  We don't fight, have rank or wear a uniform but we do carry a lot of the household weight when our significant others are gone (and even when they are home!)... we keep things running and we support our significant others.  We love and have pride in them.

Today I am celebrating all of my fellow military spouse's out there.  You rock.. and keep on doing what you are doing.

Just in case you are new around here---I am Amanda!  A Kansas native currently residing in Georgia.  I've been married to Rob for 4 years now.  This June he will celebrate 6 years in the Army.  In January I gave birth to our baby girl, Grace.  She joined her 4 year old fur-brother, Piston.  Together they create chaos in our life.  Through all of the crazy... I wouldn't trade a day that I have been blessed with.  You hear all about the highs and lows right here at Somewhere Over the Camo.  So I hope you join in and stick around for a while..

Three Months.

A quarter of a year old already.  You are growing like a weed little one and you already have such a personality.

Your quirks this month...

.You LOVE daddy.  I knew you'd be a daddy's girl, but goodness gracious.  We are talking following him around the room with your eyes, smiling his way even if he isn't looking, and laughing at almost everything he does.  It melts momma's heart to hear you two interact.

.You've also started having more interest in your brother.  You will sit there and stare at him.  If you make eye contact with him he takes it as an invitation for kisses.  To which you still aren't too sure about.

.You talk, a lot.  And loudly.

.You aren't a fan of events that take place after 8 pm.  You and daddy are one in the same with wanting to cuddle and do nothing from 8 to bedtime.

.You love to nurse to sleep.  You love to nurse period.  You love to use mommy as a pacifier.

.You still love to nap in your swing.

.You are still wearing size 2 diapers.

.You have transitioned into 3 month clothing and some 3 to 6 month outfits.

.You fall asleep between 11 and 12 still.  And sleep for a good long stretch before starting your up every two hour to nurse game.  I'm okay with it.

.You don't like loud sounds that startle you.  Your little lower lip will pucker out and you'll fuss.

.You always have your hands or a toy in your mouth.  So far you have only shown interest in soft toys.  The hard ones still are not very much fun.

.You broke your first tooth this month.  You didn't have a lot of teething problems with it other than a few days of extra fuss.  It's on your lower left side, so not super noticeable yet.

.You are a social butterfly that will smile and talk to anyone.  You love to be held and don't care who is holding you (unless you are tired or hungry of course).

.You love attention.  If nobody is interacting with you, you will "talk" loudly until someone responds.

.You still look exactly like your daddy.. but several of mommy's friends and family have said they see me in you.  Which makes mommy veryyy happy!

This next month is a big one for you baby girl.  You will go on your first road trip and get to meet a lot of people that are very important in mommy and daddy's life.  I can't wait to introduce you to everyone.  Not to mention watch you grow more.  You are such a smart beautiful girl and as usual I am so so lucky to be your momma!

Don't forget y'all... military spouse/significant other link-up goes live Friday morning!  Stop by, add your link and meet some new bloggers!

Mentor|Mentee Program

A few months ago I saw posts around the Fort Gordon virtual community for a new spouse program being set up.  The idea?  To have the wives that have been married to the military for a significant amount of time [read close(r) to retirement...] mentor the wives who were newer to the game.

I immediately jumped at the opportunity.  I can't say I'm exactly fresh to this whole military spouse life.. I do have four years under my belt.  So I wasn't sure where I would fall in the program.  I know most of the basics [how to dress for most events, how not to act, ranks, etc.] but I've grown to learn that with the military there is ALWAYS something else to learn.

While e-mailing the ACS coordinator, I asked if by chance she knew of a Warrant Officer spouse I could be hooked up with.  I was in luck, she knew of one!  Since Rob is going away to WOCS [Warrant Officer Candidate School] later this summer, I know I have some new ropes to learn that will come with transitioning from the enlisted realm to the officer side of things.

Last Thursday the program had its first gathering where mentors and mentees got to meet and mingle with each other.

The event started with some break the ice type activities, before a few quick speeches and then the pairing up of the mentors and mentees.  I had a sneaking suspicion I knew who I was going to be paired up with when I saw who was present.  And I was right!

I was paired up with my mentor, Pam.  Her husband just made CW5 in December and Pam has already been a great connection and friend to have on post [while I did meet a few new wives at the event, a lot I already knew from the spouse's club I am actively involved in on post..Pam being one of them].. we got to Fort Gordon around the same time as her and her family... so when I first attended a luncheon for the spouse's club, Pam was one of the ladies I initially met.  [My favorite part about Warrant Officer wives, is they've been in the shoes of an enlisted wife, and they will be some of the first to go out of their way to help you].  She talked me into joining the board for the spouse's club.  When the day came for us to get results for the Warrant Officer selection, Pam texted me that morning saying it was a great day, and it turned out to be one [which she may or may not have already known...].  Pam was also the one that coordinated us getting a few meals from some of the club members after Grace was born.

It is safe to say, I couldn't have asked for a better mentor.

After we were matched up, brunch was served.  We mingled some more before signing the contracts to officially bind us as mentor and mentee.

Finally we wrapped up the gathering with some fun group pictures.

While this program is just in the beginning stages, and we are essentially the test group...  I love this program and the potential that it has.  Think about it... if every ACS program, at every base, had a mentor/mentee program, you'd immediately have at least one connection at every base.  Such a small thing to ask for yet so needed!  And I can't speak enough about how fabulous the ACS program alone is.

If YOU are new (or not) to the military, I urge you to swing by your local ACS office and see what programs they offer.

Have you ever had a mentor (or mentee)?
