Happy birthday husband!

It is three days after my birthday, which means my husband has joined me in the world of being 25.

It is the end of another birthday for him, and he has spent the entire day calling it just another day.  But it is not.

He is my husband and it is his birthday and we had cookies after dinner and that is a celebration.

To my amazing husband,
Happy quarter of a century.  We are beyond lucky to have you as a husband and daddy.  We may not always agree perfectly, but I would not choose to go on this adventure called life with anyone else.  I hope you had a good day.. even though it was "just another day".
Love you to the moon and back!

Also, congratulations to my sweet friend Rachel (who is pictured on this blog.. a lot) and her husband on the birth of their daughter this evening!  She picked a pretty great day and I can't wait to meet her!

Quarter of a century.

Today I turn 25.
A quarter of a century old.

I can rent cars without signing my life away.
The AIT students on base, fresh out of basic finally look younger than me.
I prefer a glass of wine or cold beer to a rum and coke (or three) (because that OBVIOUSLY means you are an adult..).

I'm a mom and a wife.
I have responsibilities.

And yet, 25 really isn't that old.

Happy birthday to me.

It's going to be a good good day.

Happy birth date Mom!  I do love you so.

Currently on this Thursday night...

It is a below freezing kind of Thursday night here in eastern Georgia.  We are all tucked into our big king sized bed... but my toes are still cold.  While I'm not a big summer lover.. right now I am hoping and wishing for it.  Though that is partially because I just pulled the rest of Grace's 12 month clothing out.. and I just can't wait for warmer temps.. so let it be known.. I'd also be (more than) okay with spring!

So let's take stock (as Amanda puts it!), shall we?

Making: A mental to do list for tomorrow.
Cooking: Nothing as it is after 11 at night.
Drinking: Water.

Reading: Just downloaded Big Little Lies.  Our book club book for the month of February.
Wanting: 70s and no humidity.
Playing: Nothing... quite literally.  The TV isn't even on.

Listening: To Grace breathing on my shoulder, Rob typing away and Piston stretching.
Sewing: Nothing... but I need to get Rob's Christmas stocking completed...
Wishing: For orders.  Not that y'all didn't already know that.

Enjoying: That my girl is snuggled up against me, snoozing away.
Liking: That the house is clean and laundry caught up.
Wondering: If Rob will take his truck tomorrow, so I can go run errands.

Hoping: For a good birthday on Sunday!
Marveling: At my sweet little girl and her adventures in the walking department.
Needing: To go to the store. Real bad.  It is getting desperate around here... we had Ramen with steaks tonight.

Smelling: Grace face.
Wearing: Sweatpants and an oversized Jack Daniels t-shirt I got for free at a concert a few years ago.
Thinking: Of that concert from a few years ago.. hahahahahaha.  If only y'all knew.  Megan and I were unstoppable.

Feeling: Sleepy.  But content.
Bookmarking: Tattoo ideas for the next tattoo I want to get.

She is taking steps.. and I am so proud.

Happy weekend!!

Valentines and Presidents.

What do they have in common?!

They both consist of big things like LOVE and HISTORY.

They also make for a four day weekend for a certain husband of mine !!!

Thursday we got the news that courtesy patrol had been cancelled for Rob.  He cheered and I cheered.  So instead of working from 6 am to 6 pm Valentine's Day.. he was home with us!

Our weekend was fairly low key.  But perfect none the less.

Rob surprised me Saturday morning with the new handgun I had been wanting.. and Girl Scout cookies.  He knows me so well. We immediately got ready and headed out to drop the gun frame off to get dipped a new color.  One of Rob's buddy is going to turn the all black gun into a tiffany blue and black gun.. and I. Can't. Wait.  After we stopped for lunch with the baby and looked back at this time last year.  We had just had this freak ice storm that knocked out power.. and we had a wee little baby.

This year I couldn't get my little lady to sit still AT ALL for one single picture...

Grace got her first Valentine from a boy Saturday afternoon.  Logan, Nick and Abby's Christmas baby, "brought" (he is 1 1/2 months old) Grace over a gift and card.  She's a spoiled rotten baby.. but always finds the most joy in the cards.  A child after my own heart.

That evening we met up with Nick, Abby and Logan for dinner.  We went to our favorite local Italian restaurant and it was great.  Spaghetti on Valentine's Day?  Can't go wrong.  We topped it off with some Coldstone before calling it a night.

Yesterday I finally got to watch Gone Girl.  It was pretty close to the book, so I can't complain.. but it made watching it kind of hard because it took the suspense out of it.  Rob was into it though as he had never read the book.  So I'll give it 4.5 stars out of 5... that girl is crazy.

Then last night we ventured over for spaghetti round two at Nick and Abby's.  It was fantastic.. as only a Bostonian can make.  We were joined by some of our other friends that have a little girl just a few months older than Grace.  I always enjoy watching her interact (or not interact.. just watch..) with babies so close to her age.  Sometimes I feel like I'm going to have a shy one.  Maybe that is normal for me to feel at this age when she is just getting into it.

Today we shall celebrate the great Presidents of our country.. and know that next weekend we will do more celebrating in the form of some birthdays.  Quarter of a century.. I see you.

Happy Presidents day friends!

Reading my mind.

Things on my mind...
Right now.

I am OBSESSED with Scandal.  SO super late to the party... but we started watching it on Netflix and it has consumed me (seriously though, is there something wrong with me?!).  Notice I said we.. which was my first mistake because now I have to watch it only with Rob.. and thus I get stuck waiting for him to get off.. all day, eeeeeeevery day.

The wedge booties I wore to the spouse club luncheon yesterday?  Both a good and bad idea.  Good because they made the outfit.  Bad because my feet hate me for the 5 hours of wedge action.

The tea party was a major hit.  Dawn did such an awesome job with the decorations and such.  I am basically just glad my name was mentioned in connection with hers... we threw the baby shower together, but Dawn did almost all of the leg work.  It was super fun though!  We did the what is in the diaper game (so very wrong..), the don't say the word baby game, a diaper raffle (bring a pack of diapers - entered in drawing!) and guess the size of mama's belly.  I so can't wait to meet baby Lilianna and I am very glad that I got a chance to help do this for Rachel.  We met at Ft. Meade and I owe a lot of what I know about the military spouse life to Rachel.. as I learned tons from her.

I am loving the GORGEOUS refinished toy box I scooped up for a steal yesterday.  Kind of at a loss though in regards to where to put it.  It could go in Grace's room.  It could go in the living room.  It could go in the entry way.  Or we could just move and then I don't have to think so hard about it...

Currently I am watching Property Brothers while typing this and they just mentioned to a client that they could get a washer and dryer that cleans the clothing in 15 minutes and dries the clothing in 15 minutes.  Where can I get some?!

If you haven't caught on.. we are waiting on orders to find out where we will finish out this year.  Hoping to know no later than May... so enter the oh-so-dreaded waiting game.  I am so excited I can hardly stand it.. so it makes this process that much worse.  We have been here 3 years in August and while I love it, we have met some amazing people (Hi Abby!)... I'm ready.

Valentine's Day is this weekend (just in case you hadn't already heard...).. and we have no plans.  Well Rob and I have no plans.  He has to pull a 12 hour courtesy patrol shift.  Grace and I are going to a Dr. Seuss themed one mile stroller walk in the morning - and we will probably spend the rest of the day just like the rest of the week... waiting for daddy.

Happy Valentine's Day friends.. HOPEFULLY you are spending it with your special valentine (s)!

Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star.

For Grace's first birthday party we had a little gathering at our house.  It was a twinkle, twinkle, little star theme.. and while Grace doesn't have many friends her age (here local at least!).. we invited some of the people that have been around her since she was a wee little one.  More or less, it was a party for me.  I enjoyed it.. while bittersweet, celebrating my baby with a party is something that will never get old.

Invitation.. that didn't actually get mailed out.  Just some glitter chevron scrapbook paper, cardstock and double sided tape.  I uses KG Miss Kindergarten and KG All the Stars fonts.

I decorated the house with black and gold.  I found hanging gold star twists and a gold star centerpiece at our local dollar party store.  I used black streamers around the table (which I somehow got no pictures of..).  I brought out her photo books, that I'm 6 months behind on.  We had guests sign a Dr. Seuss Happy Birthday book with a sharpie.  I made the banner that hung above our TV using the same fonts from above, scrapbook paper and twine.  On the back door I hung her birth to 11 month pictures, with the help of a certain one year old..

Grace's outfit - black onesie with a gold one added by a friend.
Black and gold polk-a-dot skirt found on clearance at Walmart.
Headband found on Etsy

Grace's highchair was decorated with a pillowcase covering the normal print, and a ribbon and scrapbook paper skirt that was taped on using double sided tape.  We had two helium star balloons hanging from the back.  I made Grace's bib using a plain white bib from Hobby Lobby and an iron on G along with two iron on gold stars.

I made Grace's cake that she shared with her daddy using a box strawberry mix and cream cheese icing in a star cake pan (found on Amazon).  Topped it with some gold food coloring spray.

We Skyped in family as all military families do.. and enjoyed some presents with our sweet birthday girl.

I'm a fan y'all.  Parties, birthday parties.. it doesn't matter I'm obsessed.

What's Up Wednesday.

Hump dayyyyyy.

Ashley, Katie and Shannon are debuting their new link up.. What's Up Wednesday.. this week..  I'm all about blogging prompts already spelled out for me.  So while I finish putting together the blog post detailing Grace's birthday party.. here's what's up with me.

What I loved about the past week...
If I say the food from last weekend. I sound fat.  So let's say the company.. Friday we had hibachi and while the service sucked, the food was amazing.  Saturday we had pulled pork sandwiches (courtesy of Nick and Abby) and macaroni and cheese while watching the UFC fight.  Sunday.. Sunday was a feast y'all.. we had bacon wrapped chicken cordon blue (probably not how you spelled it.. but my husband rocked it..), chips and dip, pigs in a blanket (Abby rocked that y'all..), fresh baked cookies and Patriots cupcakes.  The weekend was spent with Nick, Abby and baby Logan.. good company, good food, good weekend.

Also loved getting an e-mail saying Somewhere Over the Camo is on the 50 Beautiful Military Spouse Blogs list.  Considering who else is on the list.. I certainly feel honored.

What I'm looking forward to...
Finding out where we are off to next.  It will be bittersweet leaving Fort Gordon because this place has become my home.. but I'm ready to move again.  To a new house if nothing else.. we've lived here for almost 3 years.. and after one I was ready for a new space to decorate..

What I'm nervous about...
Grace not gaining enough weight.

What I've been daydreaming about...
The 2500 square foot 4 bedroom, 3 bath with a bonus room house Rob showed me at one of our potential future duty station.  So. Much. Space.  So. Much. Cleaning.  The space though...

What I'm craving...
A pedicure.

What I'm doing this weekend...
Throwing another baby shower!  This one is a tea party, because Rachel loves her some tea... everyone is wearing "tea" dresses and we are having finger food and what not.

What's new in the ____ area(s) of my life (work, school, family, projects, hobbies, fitness, food, spiritual, goals, or whatever!)...
Pretty open ended right there... I don't work or go to school.  My projects correlate with throwing parties.. which has become a hobby.  The fitness part of my life includes chasing my baby toddler and grocery shopping far too often.  I like food, so that last sentence should happen more.  Spiritually I can always try harder.. but I feel like we are on good terms.

But I do have a goal.

Rob mentioned the other day I don't talk much about him here on the blog these days.  I guess our little person has kind of taken over.  So my goal is to help my husband feel appreciated.  I'm quick tempered far too often and get frustrated easily when a long day spent entertaining the baby turns into a long evening of taking care of the baby, dog and husband.  I don't have enough hands and my to do list is never complete.. but I do have someone that loves me.  He deals with that temper and frustration.. while maybe not joyfully.. he does.. and I'm lucky to have him.  He works his butt off so that I can stay home and be a mom first and foremost.  He gave me Grace.  He said "I do" almost five years ago.. and he needs to feel how much I appreciate him for everything.

So that's my goal.

What's up with you this Wednesday?

One year.

So we have reached one.
I have a one year old.

It's crazy how FAST that went.  People always say... "it goes by so fast".. but I guess you don't realize it until you are holding your little one on their day of birth... and all of a sudden a year has gone by and you can't get them to sit still long enough for a good cuddle.

At one, Grace is...
17 pounds, 6 ounces (third!!! percentile).
29 and a half inches tall (71st percentile).
wearing a size 3 diaper.
wearing a size 9/12 month onesie, 12 month pants, 12 month sleeper.
wearing a size 3 in shoes.
sporting 7 teeth.
saying "mama" and "dada".
standing up and walking along furniture.
constantly mimicking people, especially laughs.
dancing and humming to catchy tunes.
nursing 3-4 times a day.
napping in her own bed (finally!!!).
eating anything and everything.
obsessed with her fur-brother Piston.
a complete ham.

Mommy loves the way you...
cross your ankles when you nurse.
snuggle me when you are ready for bed.
scream when you are told no (your parents laugh..).
like to sleep with your foot propped up on the nearest human.
carry on a "conversation".
need mommy and only mommy after a certain hour.
don't miss a thing.
aren't afraid.

Rob and I know we are blessed with this happy child.

[[BUT... her one year appointment was a bit disappointing for me.  At Grace's 9 month appointment she had not gained a whole lot of weight, and her percentile had gone down.. I figured we would definitely be in the clear at her 12 month appointment because she eats until you take food away from her.  So it was very disappointing when the scale registered a 4 ounce weight gain.  The doctor also said he was a bit concerned about the 3rd percentile stat.  Grace was an 8 pound, 5 ounce baby and her weight has always been in the upper half for her age.  Now all of a sudden we are barely registering.  It was an extra low blow when the doctor questioned the nutrients I provide her via nursing.  At this point, I feel a lot of babies are weened, so what I provide her should just be extra.. but we still have to go back in a month after starting her on some whole milk.

I'm disappointed.  But not super concerned.  My husband is tall and skinny - so it would not surprise me in the least, if this little girl follows that trend.  She does after all look JUST like him.  Whether or not she would already be following that trend at barely a year old... I'm not sure.. but I'm going to keep trucking as long as she is happy and healthy.. and eating.]]

Any advice in the whole baby weight department?
