Slice of Life - August 2018

I blinked and the month of August passed me by.

I also didn't write much during the month of August... so ready for me to unload every glorious detail of the last month?

Let's just start with this adorable picture of my kids being cute.  Now that we have that out of the way...

Remember that project I mentioned my husband embarking upon? It started with this machine making giant trenches in our yard. Somehow my husband survived this massive project and our yard has come a long ways since this picture.  Hopefully a month from now I will be able to check in with a progress picture full of lush green grass.  Or at least the start of it.

One of our favorite stops when we go into Kansas City is Scheels.  They have bowling, golf simulators, playgrounds, a ferris wheel, food, sporting goods, and these ridiculously awesome photo opportunities.  It is great entertainment for all of us, including the husband.

My cousins and my sister.
Photo credit and edit goes to my sister.

We took a QUICK trip out to Western Kansas with my saint of a sister.  We left about 7 pm Friday and rolled into my driveway just before 9 pm on Sunday.  We squeezed in quite a bit though.  Lunch with my aunt, uncle and cousins.  Met my cousins boyfriend.  Visited with another aunt at work.  Spent the majority of Saturday night at the fair, partially with my aunt and uncle.  Had brunch on Sunday with even more family.  Visited my grandparents grave. And toured our little Western Kansas town of Dresden.  I always LOVE taking my kids out west for the fair because everything is way cheaper and the entire fair is ran by volunteers from the county instead of those creepy traveling fair people.  Short of Brooklyn having some sort of a tummy bug I was ill prepared for in the clothing department, it was a fun trip that was totally worth it.

On the way home we took the long way through Concordia to visit my maternal grandparents grave and this lovely lady.  Back in April I touched on visiting her in the ICU.  It is nothing short of a miracle that we were able to meet up with her, hug her and spend a little over an hour with her on the way home.  She has made an almost full recovery, minus two weeks that she has no memory of.  We are so thankful that all our prayers were answered.

A few days after getting back from our trip out west, my cousin rolled through on her way back east.  It was extra special getting to spend the evening with them because they are 1/2 of Emily's Godparents and their son was born on my birthday, a little over a month before Emily was born. Shelley is like an older sister to me in so many ways so I'm always glad when our paths are able to cross.

She MAY look like her mama.  Yes?

I am almost 100% certain almost all moms can relate to this.  I love my children TO DEATH.  But I also need my space from my children every now and again.  It is something I am constantly struggling with.  But I think it is actually good for all of us when there is some space between us.

This started happening recently.  Brooklyn has learned how to get out of her crib and our nights have been a complete sh*tshow ever since.  Normally by the time the sun is up the next morning we have a 4 year old and a 2 year old jammed in our bed however they fit. I keep on hearing I will miss this someday... but y'all, I don't honestly know.  There is just something about waking up and not feeling like you slept with a head jammed in your back all night long.

Still a major fan of the MOPs book club I am apart of.  I actually enjoy reading the books and then meeting up and letting the kids play while we discuss the book for like half a second before moving on to more pressing concerns.  Ha ha.  But in all seriousness, I am very thankful for these local mom friends.

They are painting a new mural on the wall of the library here in town and they opened it up for the public to help paint some parts.  So naturally I had my girls go on down and add their mark to it.  I feel like someday it will be something they can claim. "I helped paint that mural." And I love that they will have that connection to their town.

RING ALL THE BELLS.  The most wonderful time of the year is (pretty much) here!  The Fall decorations came out last weekend and I am stoked.  I LOVE FALL.  Almost as much as some people love Christmas.  Except maybe more?  It is not too early y'all.

So that is August.  In a nutshell.  We have been busy but also not busy.  An interesting combination.

What was the highlight of your August?

    1. Thanks! It definitely was cool. We only get to see each other once every year or so with everyone being at different places and locations in life, so it is definitely awesome when we get to catch up!

    1. Right?! It's an outdoors store but there is seriously something for everyone in there. We spend way too much time in there. Haha.
