Thanksgiving 2018

I'm still riding that post holiday high of "HOLY CRUD I AM SO THANKFUL".  This years little Thanksgiving celebration at our house was no different unless you count smoking the turkey instead of frying it as a MAJOR change.

My big girl after her preschool Thanksgiving party, earlier in the week.

Rob and Diesel started the morning off with a pretty successful hunt, which meant the girls started our Thanksgiving pretty leisurely by staying in bed just a bit longer and then turning on the parade while we (and by we, I mean me) finished cleaning and getting the house ready.

My parents arrived in the early afternoon and my sister was slightly behind them.  The kids played outside and the adults opened beverages.  Football was turned on and we feasted just before dinner time.  As usual, my husband absolutely crushed it.  We had a smoked turkey, smoked ham, macaroni and cheese, rolls, sweet potatoes, green bean casserole, potatoes, pumpkin bars, two fancy pies my sister brought and NAPOLEON ice cream (aka Neapolitan - had to poke my husband one last time for the joke that keeps on giving from Thanksgiving).

Sad lab eyes, that daddy isn't sharing the turkey leg.

Just as we were wrapping up our meal one of my best friends and her family popped over for a drink and a short visit.  The kids were deliriously happy and the playroom was quickly destroyed.  We took no pictures, much to my absolute dismay... but this is the second year out of three years we have lived here that they have popped in on their way home.  I would absolutely love to make this a Thanksgiving tradition.

Just as soon as it began, it was over.  But there's just something about Thanksgiving that puts you in the right frame of mind for the month of December and all the giving and glory that is given.  Am I right?

What is your favorite Thanksgiving tradition?
