When all you can hear is the air conditioner.

Sometimes it is a very very good thing.  (Unless of course your mind is wandering just a tad bit too much.. then.. then it's a bit frustrating. ((Tonight is NOT one of those nights.)))  Rob is out of the house apartment for awhile right now so Piston and I are relaxing.  Shall I paint you a picture?  The dog is completely sprawled across the couch still trying to catch up on missed sleep from this weekend (more on that later).  I am sitting here at the computer desk reading blogs, chatting on Facebook and thinking about how I should get up and walk over to shut the blinds on the screen door since it is dark out and all my neighbors don't really need to see in.

Random?  I do believe so.

The apartment is completely unpacked.  The only thing missing as of now is stuff on the walls.  Which everything is laying in the correct room just waiting for me to hang it up when I get a chance during non-quiet hours to bang a nail into the wall.  It feels like home and I have almost (not quite) forgot about the drab place we left in Maryland with it's half painted walls, dingy carpet and front door that let ants in.

Speaking of Maryland... remember my post about how awful the drivers are there?  I do believe Kansas.. or maybe just Olathe.. is sneaking up on that state.  Maybe it's about time for Kansas to make a law making it illegal to tough your phone while driving.  Cause at the end of the day that really is the root of all problems.  We could of avoided the near rear end if it weren't for the guy holding his phone up next to his steering wheel doing what I can only assume was surfing the web.  We could of avoided all the anger from the driver in our car if it weren't for that person cutting him off while talking on their phone.  You see Kansas.. take a pointer from Maryland.. things get better when the phone is not in use.  (Yes, Mom and Dad, I am aware that you have been telling me this for years!)

I have seen all my important friends since getting back.. except Lindsay and her new husband.  But that's okay they are excused since they are in the process of moving as well.  Everyone has admired my vaulted ceilings, met my crazy puppy and had food with us at least once.  There are so many more people to see though before Rob deploys... (yuck, that word...) so I do not see anything slowing down anytime soon.

Our visit to Concordia to see Grandpa went well actually.  He was in good spirits and cracking jokes when he wasn't sleeping.  I think he was extremely happy to have his family with him for Father's day and who can blame the man?  He lives in a nursing home and has no interaction most days.  I wouldn't wish that on even my worst enemy.  Regardless he downed his strawberry milkshake and asked how the family was doing.  He is such a great man and the only thing I can ask is that the Lord go easy on him in his last days, months, etc..

We spent this last weekend at the lake with my parents, sister and two of her friends.  It was Piston's first adventure camping and first experience with a body of water bigger than a bathtub.  He liked being outside, but did not enjoy being away from us.  It was hot a few days so Piston spent time in his kennel in my parents a/c'd camper while we were out on the water and the likes.  The first day he wasn't too sure about the water but as the temperature climbed the next day he went bounding in.  Didn't quite master swimming, but it's in his future as he is a very very smart dog.  Anyway, we left with new memories and a sunburn on Rob's face but it was a worthwhile weekend!  Of course.

Now we get to rush laundry so we can leave for out next adventure.  Tomorrow we head to see Rob's family in Springfield.  Where we will be in Branson for July 4th and make even more memories.  After that it will be more whirlwind visiting with people before Rob leaves.  But for now we aren't thinking about that.  I mean, who really would want to??

A sense of normalcy.

Well things are finally starting to settle down, just a tad.  I can't quite say I am back for normal updates/posts.. as the next couple weeks are going to be filled to the brim with seeing family and doing things Rob wants to do before he leaves.  But we finally got internet and the house is mostly finished (the dang bedroom will kill me before it gets done I'm sure...).  Oops, by house I mean apartment.  That's weird for me.  The third floor no less.  Hopefully by the end of the summer after taking Piston potty enough times, some weight will be shed that was gained while living in Maryland.  (Which surprisingly I kind of miss... only because there I was essentially a nobody.  I could go places and nobody would know who I was.  Here.. it's like everywhere you go you recognize/know someone.  Which I used to love, but I guess I will have to re-adapt to.)

Anyway so I found a peaceful moment where both my babes are asleep and figured I'd update this to let everyone know we made it here if nothing else.  The drive was hell.  We did end up staying the night though somewhere in Indiana.  After a near tire blow out.  We went looking for a bathroom that was advertised on a highway sign... but ended up being a little convenience store about a mile off the road that is not open 24/7, if ever anymore.  I think when we did our turn around with the truck we must of drove over something that punctured one of the 4 tires on the trailer.  Luckily by the time we pulled into the next gas station it was just flat, and someone was kind enough to point it out.  An hour and a half later we decided to call it a night at the next set of hotels about 30 minutes down the road.  After battling the wind on I-70 between St. Louis and Kansas City we finally pulled in with enough time to get the keys to our apartment a day early.  And by the end of that night we had the whole truck unloaded, with a huge thanks to my family and a few of my sisters friends that were kind enough to come and help.  3 days later we are all trying to recover still I do believe.  Piston did an amazing job on the move.  He rode in the car like a pro.  Especially for a boxer.  Once we hit the highway he was out like a light and even had some dreams on the road.  Couldn't have asked for a better result from him.  Rob ended up driving the truck from MD to KS.. both days.  SO hew as pretty freaking worn out by the time everything was unloaded Tuesday night.  Then there is me... I think if nothing else the stress caught up with me from this move and what is still left to be done.  And I just can't get over it...

Anyway, bottom line.. we are here and in one piece.

I hear a storm rolling in.  I forgot how crazy it can be in the springtime here.  And we definitely hear storms here as opposed to the townhouse we used to live in.  For whatever reason we hardly heard storms.  Last night at like 1AM.. there was a huge thunderclap that sent Piston to the window to check it out and then back into the bedroom to take over my side of the bed for the remainder of the night.  Not to mention my phone keeps blowing up with weather channel notifications that we are under warnings.  No kidding??  I can hear that.  Ha ha.

Well---better hit the hay.  Have to get up and go tomorrow.  Goal is to have the bedroom finished and the last boxes out of this house by the time my besties get here around lunchtime.  We are hitting up the casinos with Rob tomorrow during the day!  Or rather.. Kara and Rob are going to gamble.  I am going to drink free drinks compliments of them... and Al?  I think she is just along for the ride!  Then Sunday aka Fathers Day we are headed to Concordia for what may be the last time I get to see my Grandpa before he passes away.  He's on hospice for those that don't know... and my Mom is under the impression he is just waiting for me to come see him one last time.  As much as it hurts, I know he is on his way to a much better place for him.  Where he will get to spend his days with the love of his life and not suffer anymore.  One should only wish that for those that they love very much.

So say an extra prayer if you read this.  I have a feeling it is very much needed.

I've been MIA.

Sorry yall, Rob has been off work and we have been super busy with stuff for the move and completing last minute Baltimore/East Coast things.  Like spending a whole day in NYC.  (Was great..) Anyway, I know this is a very short post.. but just wanted to let everyone know that things are good here.  Will sit down for a longer post either later this week or next at the latest.  Many loves and hugs all.  I'm almost re-located to KS again!
