We partied.

Hands down the best part about being three days older than my husband is the fact that we can do our birthdays big.. together.. at once.

In 2011.. we went to Atlantic City to celebrate our 21st birthdays the right way.  As in gambling, alcohol, the whole works.  [[Read more here.]]  Last year Rob was home on R&R over our birthdays.  That was a crazy busy week!  Between tattoos and the casino on my birthday and going out downtown with all of our friends on Rob's birthday.. we partied hard for our 22nd birthdays.

I wasn't sure we could really top last year's birthday considering the fact we are in a relatively new state and we don't exactly have a ton of close friends here.. but somehow we came pretty close.

Friday was my birthday.. which included a giant bubble bath in our freaking amazing tub, being a bum, dinner and some errands.  Monday was Rob's birthday.. which included him working and me being a bum.  [Story of my life, huh?]

So Saturday we celebrated!  My cousin and our new neighbor came to "support" me.  Rob had several of his co-workers and a few classmates that came.  It ended up being like 8 dudes or something to us 3 girls.  Regardless, it was a great time!
Tonya, my cousin Jess and I.

My outfit for the night.  Comfortable yet still cute!
Plus it was our first time hosting a get together at our house.. and it actually went pretty well.  We locked the dogs up in their kennels in our bedroom, grilled some burgers, ordered the UFC fight and surprisingly there was only one spilled drink!

Probably the best part though was just having to walk down the hallway to conk out.  No worry about how to get home.  Major score.

---

In other news.. I redid the blog.  Check it out!  I love how it turned out...

---

I've been spending too much time at Family Dollar... yesterday I got a lamp for the office and a curtain to hide a storage area in our laundry room [$6 that's all!].  Today I went back and got a comforter set for our bedroom.  It was only $40!  Compared to the one we have now.. I have no problem with the dogs laying on it.. I won't be freaking out about it being ruined!  And I just may find myself again there soon to get another comforter set for the spare bedroom.  If you have one.. you should check it out.  Just saying.

---

I just finished another session at DeVry!  Only 3 to go!  Next one starts Monday... this session will be a bit different in the fact that I am taking 3 classes instead of 2.  I ended up having an odd number of classes left, so I had to tack one onto this session.  I am hoping it doesn't translate into a ton of extra work.  Oh well.. the end is in sight.

---

We just got our taxes back the other day... the best part?  Paying off debt.  Whose with me?!

---

I'm slowly starting to tackle room by room adding the finishing touches onto what I deemed incomplete before.  The laundry room and master bedroom closet are done.  The office is so close.  Next plan is to tackle the spare bedroom. :)  I have a deadline [when my sister comes!] and I am sticking to it folks.

And I think that's it... Happy Thursday.  Tomorrow is Friday!  Keep your chin up... or smile a little bigger if you need to!

Dear husband.

Dear Rob,

Happy birthday handsome man of mine!

I just wanted to take a moment and dedicate a post to you.  To you on your 23rd birthday.  Thanks for taking care of me and the fur babies.  I know it's not always easy dealing with me (and vice versa) but you do it.  At the end of the day, regardless of how =[ the day has been, you are still my best friend.  My soul mate.  The one I am happy to share a home and a life with.

I've told you a thousand times that you are the only one I'd ever share this crazy life with.  The only one I'd be okay sharing it with.  I mean that with every ounce of my being.

I love you to the moon and back you old man you!

Always,
Amanda

On being 23.

It's 15 minutes past midnight on Friday February 22nd.  So far an average start to an otherwise average day.  Except I know better.

It is my birthday.

23 years ago I was born.
23. years. Wow.

I'd like to think I've learned one or two things about who I am at 23...

I'm a wife. A daughter. A sister. A friend. A fur mother. I'm fiesty but loving.  I'm responsible.  I don't always make the best choices, but I don't regret my mistakes either because they all became learning opportunities.  I'm sarcastic more often than not.  I'm smart but sometimes lack common sense.  I grew up under a rock, so the world still shocks me daily.  I am thankful for that rock, because it means someone was looking out for me.  I'm outgoing, but don't like uncomfortable situations.  I enjoy writing, designing, watching TV and reading.  I wear sweatpants more than actual clothes.  I'm organized and I love to decorate.  My feelings get hurt easily.  I am naturally extremely trusting.  I cry when people go out of their way for others.  I cry at love and happy things, as well as sad things.  When my husband comes home at the end of the day excited to see me, I am the happiest in the world.  Nothing beats the love my dogs have for me.  I consider myself blessed.

I'm me.
I'm loved by many, probably hated by some.  I'm not changing, or going anywhere.

So when I wake up for the start of this day... I'm going to finally use that oversized bathtub that has not been used, go to the library, watch Magic Mike again, drink wine and be thankful to be celebrating my 23rd year of life.

One last note to tack onto the end of this celebration:
On this special day I want to send a shout out to my mother.  It's her birth date.  And without her and my dad I obviously wouldn't be celebrating today 23 years later.  I am so thankful for the both of you and all you have done for me for 23 years now.

Amanda

My flyover state.

It is just plain ridiculous how long it takes for me to feel recovered from vacation these days.  Am I getting old?  Life obviously didn't stop here in Georgia and as a result I came home to a whirlwind four day weekend.  Today though life will returned to a new normal.  Today was the first full day of a six week course Rob is taking here at Fort Gordon.  While he still gets to come home at night.. he leaves a lot earlier in the morning and works a lot later at night.  So let that fun begin...

SO how was Kansas?!

It was great!  A much needed escape from having responsibilities with keeping a house clean and taking care of both the dogs and husband.

It took me over two months to get home.  Originally I was supposed to go the first part of December.. then just after the new year.. and finally February.  Between Rob being up in the air about going and the holidays.. it just kept getting pushed back.  But I made it.. and I am so glad!

And I was busy.  A good kind of busy though...

There was.. tons of food outings.
Tattoos.
Definitely not the best picture.. but it shows that all 4 of us got them!
(Kara. Upload Pictures. Kthanks.)

Three of us got matching elephant tattoos (if you know what this stands for.. you know me too well!)
The other one got her own design for her first tattoo!!

Movies.
Laughs.
Christmas presents.
Going out with all of my friends (thanks to all those that came out.. you mean the world to me!)

Spending quality time with my family.
Taking pictures.
Just an example... we have CDs coming.. love these girls!

Running errands.
Shopping.

I returned home just in time for Valentine's Day!  Which was awesome this year.. Rob worked during the day but on his lunch break he surprised me with tickets to Brantley Gilbert and Kip Moore!  After work we took a road trip to Atlanta for some Texas Roadhouse (Augusta really needs to get on that.. sucks they don't have one!)
Just another perk to not having children... road trips on a whim!

Friday was the concert!  And the start of a 4 day weekend..

The concert was awesome to say the least.. and we had great seats.. Saturday there was a house warming party for one of Rob's co-workers.  The rest of the weekend was spent getting ready for this week.  The start of that class for Rob and a new adventure for me.

The adventure?  Making friends.

I'm already one lunch date in to it.  Got a few other opportunities planned this week.. and I'm excited!

How was your weekend?!

(Let me just take a second to brag about my 3 friends up there.. we've been friends since high school. They know me inside and out.  Know what to say, how I act when I've been drinking.. etc. And they still love me after all of that... I am so thankful to have these girls even though this military journey has taken me far away from them.)

Always,
Amanda

What would you do?

I generally like to give people the benefit of the doubt.  But after this afternoon... I am not sure what kind of society I am living in where it is okay to ignore certain situations.

Less than an hour ago Rob and I went and grabbed a late lunch at Moe's.  As we are eating our food we notice this girl walk back and forth in front of the window about 3 times.  All at once a table of older teenagers hopped up and ran towards the door.  As did my husband.  I turned around in time to see what appeared to be a fight.  About a minute later my husband came back in and had his phone out to call the police.  He witnessed a man holding a woman by her wrists (the same woman that was walking back and forth).  Told the man to let go of the woman.  She walked away, came back and hit the guy on the head.  Essentially it was a dispute of some kind.

Rob called the police.  Told them what he saw and then we carried on with our meal.

What dumbfounded both him and me... was that nobody was going to step in and stop the dispute.  Obviously there is no telling what actually happened (one of the Moe's employees stated he saw the woman start the fight by throwing a cup of water on the guy) and I'm not going to speculate on who was or wasn't at fault.  But a crowd of teenage boys rushed to the window... to watch.  The Moe's employee was out there doing something... but just watched.  It was my husband that stepped in and told the guy to let go of the woman.  My husband that called the police.  My husband was the only person to step in and break the fight up.

Since when are we a society where we just sit back and watch stuff like that go down and don't step in to help?  Since when is it okay to just be a bystander when you see a domestic dispute like that?

Do we wait until it gets worse and someone is seriously hurt?  Do we wait until help is asked for?  Even then do we do anything?

Come on people.. I'd like to think better, of everyone.

(On another note.. it took the police 20 minutes to respond to the mall of all places... thank goodness it didn't escalate any more.  Something wrong with that picture!)

Amanda

Awards for this bloggg!

So for the last few months I have had some awesome bloggers leave comments on various posts stating that they awarded me something on their blog.  What?!  Awesome.

First, I'd like to thank the Academy.  The awesome bloggers and friends and family that read my blog. My husband and my puppies..

Haha, just kidding, obviously.

---

My lovely over seas friend Amanda at Overseas Adventures gave me the Versatile Blogger award.  (If you haven't read her awesome blog.. you should.  I mean come on guys, she lives overseas and writes about it!)

7 things about myself:
1. My hair is naturally red.  I just recently considered adding some highlights to change things up.
2. I clean late at night.. that's when my motivation almost always hits.  When we lived in the townhouse and apartment this was a bit difficult as I couldn't exactly be vacuuming at 11 at night..
3. I'm a Kansas City Chiefs fan.. through the thick and the thin.. the good and the bad.. there is no fair weather fan in me.
4. I drive a stick shift.
5. I've had 3 majors.  Elementary education. Interior Design. Graphic Design. :)
6. I'm OBSESSED with purses.
7. Ever since I was little I've loved a good book.  A good book that HAS to have an underlying love story (or I lose interest).  I'm just a sucker for a love story y'all.

---

The award I was awarded by not one but three people is the Liebster award.  First off thank you Kathryn at My Life as a Reserve Army Wife (hands down one of my best blogger buddies!  If we lived closer.. there would be trouble we've decided!), Jen at The Adventures of Our Army Life (totally awesome Army wife!) and Janna at Faith, Hope and Love (just started following her cute little blog, and you should too!).

The Liebster award is awarded to up and coming bloggers with under 200 followers.  Jen defined real well what Liebster means in her post, so rather than copy and paste.. just go here.

The rules are---Post 11 things about yourself---Answer the 11 questions your nominee asked---Ask 11 new questions for those you are nominating---Choose 11 people---Link 11 people to your post---Tell 11 people they were nominated.

11 things about myself.
1. I live for cool, jeans and sweatshirt, weather.
2. I own 4 pairs of cowgirl boots.  And if it were up to me... I'd add a pair or two or three.
3. I thoroughly enjoy reality (more often than not trashy) TV.  I'm talking housewives, guidettes, basically anything on MTV.. that kind of reality.  Although I am a sucker for Hart of Dixie.. oh goodness sakes alive (Wade fan.. HOLLA!)
4. I'm not sure what I am going to do with my degree.  My ideal goal would be to run a freelance design company on the side where I design invitations, programs, thank you's, etc.
5. Sometimes I care TOO much about what other people care/think/want.
6. I have two dogs that are both madly in love with my husband even though I take care of them day in and day out.  And sometimes I pout and throw a fit because it is just not fair.
7. I LOVE country music.  Old, new.  Twangy or not. But I am absolutely not a Taylor Swift fan.  (I think she is overrated.)
8. I love organization.  Everything has a place.  Not an area like my husband may sometimes think, a place... just one.
9. I get super excited when I think about the future.  Of course I have no idea what is in store for me... but I know that whatever is supposed to happen, will happen.
10. I have a three inch scar on my upper left thigh from a bicycle accident when I was 11.  My wheel got stuck in a crack between the grass and sidewalk.  As a result I was thrown off but not before my pedal tore my leg open.  It was too jagged for stitches and I've never been a fan of bike riding since.
11. I'm seriously a social media junkie.  It's addicting y'all.

Questions from Kathryn.
1. What made you decide to start a blog?
Being far away from family and friends for the first time in 2010 (when we lived in Maryland) I was looking for that one way to inform them about my life and what better way then writing about it on a blog?  Since then it has morphed into more of a hobby.  I'm a "blogger".

2. What have you learned from blogging?

That not everyone always has the same viewpoint as me.  My husband likes to say I grew up under a rock.  True or not I am not sure.. but regardless it is interesting to see how people think about various topics.

3. If you could travel anywhere (don't worry about money) where would you go and why?
The Atlantis hotel in the Bahamas... ever since MaryKate and Ashley Olsen made a movie there I"ve been dying to go there..

4. What is your favorite animal?
Moose.

5. If you could have your dream job, what would it be?
I'd say being a mother.. with a side of graphic design.. and a side of blogging.  If those three things could make me serious bank I'd be golden.

6. If your iPod/radio was turned on right now, what type of music would be playing?
Countryyyyyyyy. :)

7. What's your favorite movie?
The Notebook. Sweet Home Alabama and Ladder 49.

8. Where did you attend college? If you haven't gone yet, where would you like to go?
I went to the local community college for my Associate's.  Now I am going to DeVry all online!

9. If you could live anywhere in the U.S., where would it be and why?
Kansas.  It's where my family and friends are.  Let's just be honest.. I'll always be a Kansas princess and a small part of me is always left behind everytime we have to move.  There are other areas I like... but Kansas will always be my go to place.

10. What annoys you most about milspouse bloggers?
Complaining about the military.  I get that is what blogging is for.. but I feel the same way about some blog posts as I do about some Facebook posts.  I know it isn't always ideal... BUT the government writes your spouse a paycheck.. in return your spouse does what they tell them do when they do.. period.  End of story.

11. If you could have an entire day to yourself, what would you do with your time?
Not a thing.  Read a book.  Watch TV.  Nap.. not get up a hundred times to let the dog out.  Not do laundry. Not clean.  Nothing.

Questions from Jen.
1. If you could be any color, what would you be and why?
Teal.  It's bright, colorful and gives off a relaxed vibe all at the same time.

2. Do you have any pets?
Two gorgeous doggies!  Piston my 2 year old boxer.  Klutch my 6 month old boxer mix puppy.

3.  If you could meet anyone living or dead who would it be?
My grandmother on my Mom's side.  She died when I was two... so while she knew me, I didn't get to know her as well as I would have liked.  Being that she is my Momma's Mom, I know she would have been a fabulous lady to have known!

4. What is your favorite meal?
Macaroni and cheese.  Growing up I'd request mac and cheese, tuna patties and broccoli with cheese as my birthday dinner.

5. If you could pick any actor to play you in your life story, who would you choose?
Emma Stone handsdown.

6. Are you a tomboy or girly girl?
Somewhere in between.  I always have my toes painted, but I don't mind going fishing with my husband and walloping through the mud.

7. Do you have any siblings?
I have one biological sister.  Heyyyyy Rintin!
And a whole handful of siblings I married into.. 1 boy and 2 girls on Rob's Mom's side.  3 boys and 3 girls on Rob's Dad's side.

8. What is your biggest pet peeve?
Whining. Bad drivers. Loud chewers.

9. Are you allergic to anything?
Kitty cats.

10. Are you afraid of anything?
Dying. Being alone. And recently the bugs here in Georgia.

11. What is your favorite type of music?
Couuuuuntry... for like the third time this post. ;)

Questions from Janna.
1. Why do you blog?
See questions from Kathryn number 11

2. What 3 people (fictitious or real) would you want to have lunch with?
My Mom's mom.  Miranda Lambert. God.

3. If you could have any super power, what would it be and why?
I'm not sure it is a super power.. but I'd love to have my laundry and housework done quickly and easily.  Like I walk around the room.. and bam, it's clean.  Without doing anything.

4. What was your favorite cartoon as a kid?
Spongebob.

5. Favorite movie of all time?
The Notebook.

6. Paperback or Kindle Fire or Nook? Why?
Paperback.. I'm not an electronic reader girl.  I love the feel of a good book in my hands!

7. What is the best part of your day?
When my husband comes home from work.  My dogs are usually jumping around with excitement.. and it means I am no longer alone!

8. Who has influenced you the most in your life?
My parents.  They've been there for me in one way or another every step of the way.

9. If you could back in time, where would you go?
Back to 18.  I miss graduation, senior activities and being young with no cares!

10. What are your top 3 goals for 2013?
Get a job. Graduate. Complete Couch to 5k.

11. What is your least favorite chore to do?
Laundry... bleh.  It is never ending!

SO this post has been sitting in drafts for way too long now... so I'm just going to publish it without nominating people.  All of my very favorite blogs have been nominated already.  So therefore.. I'm ending at this.

You all Rock!

Always,
Amanda

Where I'm From.

Being a part of the military community is always an adventure.  The most obvious being where you've been.. where you will go.. where you call home.

It is almost always one of the first questions asked (usually right after.. "Do you have kids?").. where are you from?

While sitting at the Georgia DMV (they call it something ridiculous..) it dawned on me that in the three short years I've been doing this military spouse dance, I already can answer in so many ways.

I was born in Missouri.  Just across the Kansas/Missouri state line.  So according to my birth certificate.. I'm from Missouri.

I was raised in Kansas.  In two separate Kansas City suburbs.  Overland Park until I was 11.  Shawnee until I was 20.  I identify the most with Shawnee.. that's where my friends are from, my family still resides, my most vivid memories occur.  I graduated high school from there.. I met my husband there.. so according to Facebook.. I'm from Shawnee, Kansas.

I got married in Maryland.  We lived there for a year.. got married in 2010 in the most gorgeous courthouse ever.  So according to my marriage certificate.. I could call Maryland a "from".

I returned to Kansas while my husband was deployed.  So when Georgia people ask me where I am from I refer to our place in Olathe.  But there is only one year of memories from there.. but again.. I'm from Kansas.

I currently live in Georgia.  My husband is here.  My dogs are here.  My life is here.  According to my driver's license.. I'm a Georgia resident.

But I will ALWAYS be a Kansas princess.  A midwestern girl.  Kansas is where I'm from.  It is my home.. It is ingrained in me.

And I wouldn't have it any other way.

So with that.. I'm off.. back to that glorious fly over state for a week of visiting with friends and family.  This trip has been planned, cancelled, re-planned and so therefore I am anxious to get back to my "from".

Credit for this post goes to the original blogger who posted the same "Where I'm From" post.. unfortunately I can't find it now.. so I can't direct you to a specific blog.

Always,
Amanda
