Piston's Second Birthday

So I now have a two year old in the house.  And hopefully the terrible twos passed during his second year in dog years. :)

His birthday "celebrations" started like this... sitting face to face with Rob on skype.  I sat the computer down to go to the bathroom and heard Rob calling for me to come look.. and I come back to the room to find this.  Seriously melted my heart.

After we woke up for the day it was an adventure off to the vet.  We are working on getting Piston's allergies a bit better.. and today he got his first steroid shot.  So far, so good.  The other reason we had a vet appointment was to get an explanation for the funny little bump on his back left leg.  Mr. Vet called it a some-fancy-word tumor.  He wasn't able to tell me how serious it was though, unless we coughed up a huge chunk of change to get it removed (which will be happening in the future...).  But he did say it's popular in young boxers, so I'm not too terribly stressed, yet.  After a wrestling match to try and clean his ears we were off again... both already pooped for the day.
For a two year old boxer, Piston is an AMAZING car rider.  He has tons of experience with his road trip from Maryland to Kansas and constantly being my partner in crime.  Usually he just sits back in the seat with his legs extended like my own real life kid!
We stopped by my Mom's work next so that Piston could see his "Grandma".  Some of her co-workers got to meet him.. he's pretty popular you know... you'd never guess though, it's not like he loves attention or anything..

Our next and final stop was the pet store to get a birthday treat. :)  Yep, he's a dog.. I know.  But he is also my child.

After we got home.. Piston quickly licked all of the icing off of the biscuit and then broke it into a billion tiny little pieces and ate every last crumb.  I'd say birthday boy was pretty happy with his little treat.  :)

Shortly after these pictures he conked out on the floor for basically the rest of the evening.. ruff life. ;)

I'm crazy I know.. but hopefully I am not the only crazy dog lady?

Amanda

The rest of R&R.

I do believe I have slacked long enough my friends, and for that I apologize.  Here is the rest of our lovely R&R adventure that happened almost a month ago, can you believe that?  (Although I really feel like time is not moving near fast enough... deployment problems, huh?)

So Rob's birthday was on Saturday the 25th of February.  Such a lucky dog.  His 21st birthday last year was on a Friday and his 22nd on a Saturday.. and me, I'm stuck with mid week birthdays!  We were busy the whole day again.  Started off at the gun and knife show.  A military man's heaven, right?  Almost all afternoon was spent there and we walked out with two handguns and some accessories.  (You'll see us testing those later.. ;) )  We were there until the event shut down.. then we had to jet downtown to check into our hotel room for the night and start getting ready.  It was a dual birthday/Rob being home celebration and some of my nearest and dearest were able to make it out to have a drink (or two..lol) with us.  It was a fantastic evening.  We even got to sit outside underneath some amazing heaters and it was perfect.  A little sloppy at some points, but when alcohol is involved that sometimes happens... or at least in my experience!

Anyway here are some pictures from that evening:
My best friends-Kara, Allison and Megan.
The love of my life.
Picture quality is horrible I know.. SORRY!

Oh and remember those shoes from THIS post?  Here is my fabulous outfit for the evening.  I loved my dress, it was super comfortable.  And since I got it on sale at Charming Charlie's it was also a STEAL.  Really wish I got a picture of the shoulder detail.. but these pictures were actually taken AFTER going out.  I paired it with my pleather jacket and was not even cold in the least.  Okay maybe walking between buildings I was freezing.. but hey the price for beauty, huh?

Other than that we spent some time at the range shooting our new guns.
Actually Rob's gun.. mine is much cuter. :)
The ones in the middle are all mine!

Some time was spent eating some good BBQ (this is Kansas City after all!) with family.

We also went and saw Josh Turner.. he puts on an amazing show, unfortunately the venue was less than stellar but I was bound and determined to go to a concert while my love was in town!  So we went and I had a good time personally.  Rob probably had a better time at the casino after than he did standing through that whole concert.  LOL, men!

We went bowling with my parents.. I dominated the first game and since there aren't pictures of the other games I would have to assume that's because I wasn't winning.  Bahaha.

And on Rob's last night we dressed up and went to dinner. :) I considered it our anniversary dinner.  It was bittersweet that's for sure but it's always an adventure when we get gussied up to go out on the town. :)  We went to our favorite place ever.. Texas Roadhouse (hey Rob is a Texas boy!) and then spent the evening relaxing trying not to think about the next day.. obviously.

Whew.. now y'all are up to date!  Don't ya feel like you've been missing out?  Once again sorry it took so long.

Oh and HEYYY Y'ALL to my new followers!  Welcome to my crazy space on the web!

I'm off to celebrate Piston (my wonderful fur-child) on this special day of his, it's his second birthday!! Goodness sakes alive, I can't believe it.  Where has the time go?  Oh and I do mean celebrate.  ;) Stay tuned!

Amanda

Another Important Interruption!

Okay I have three things:

  1. Y'all can now follow via e-mail.  There is a link on the right side you can put your e-mail in.  I haven't used it yet, so please let me know if it doesn't work for you.
  2. New layout! :) So come check it out.
  3. With the new layout, I also have a button finally!!

    Somewhere Over the Camo
So if you would be so kind as to add my button to your blog, and I will add back, if it's not already there!  (Please let me know if your button isn't already there...)

If you are looking to make your own button there are a couple of places I found my information from (I know I said I'd do a tutorial, but THIS ONE is way better.)  When it comes to doing the grab my button box I would go to THIS WEBSITE and it will produce the code for you.  The one on the tutorial page is a tad bit confusing and didn't actually work on my page.

I will be back tomorrow with one huge wrap up post from R and R so we can finally move on to bigger and better things, like the cleanse I start tomorrow. :)  Stay tuned y'all.

My birthday recap.

Finally a post you have all been waiting for!

So Rob got into town on Monday the 20th.  My golden birthday was on Wednesday the 22nd.  Perfect timing, huh?  By far the best birthday present ever was getting to spend the whole day with my husband.
Birthday card action from my lazy lover.
I woke up to an awesome text message from one of my best friends:
Ain't she the sweetest? Love you Bree!
Obviously my day was off to a GREAT start.  Rob told me to get ready he had a whole day planned.  First stop Waffle House.  That Wednesday happened to be Ash Wednesday (I have a love/hate relationship with my birthday being in February because in the past 4 years two of my birthday have landed on a can't-eat-meat-Catholic-holiday--and I love me some hamburgers and chicken!) so chocolate chip waffles and hash browns got me off on the right foot.  We did a little bit of shopping and then we were off to the tattoo parlor, where we spent roughly 2 and a half hours.. or so (hey it was a long time ago!)  Rob got his tattoo of Texas finished and I got a small tattoo on my right foot:
Our awesome tattoo artist.. he served in the Marines and so Rob and him talked about the military the WHOLE time.
My little tattoo.. obviously it is the infinity symbol with the word family in it.  It is in my own handwriting.. with three little nails incorporated.  The nails are a homage to my Grandpa.  He always argued that nails were ALWAYS better than screws, no matter what you were trying to do.  I love it.. it is just perfect for my first and only!

After we were all bandaged up we jetted off to dinner.  My second favorite food group besides American food is Italian food.  So we had salad, pasta, bread, WINE and a wonderful little dessert.

Totally not supposed to take pictures.. oops, oh well.
A pretty huge portion of the bottle was drained by none other than me.. so the next stop in my birthday adventure was eventful, to say the least.  Rob and I met up with one of my favorites and her boyfriend at the casino.  It's new, and we have to check out every casino (if only you could see the number of casino guest cards that I have!!!!)  Rob got himself a seat in the poker room, my friend found a seat at the blackjack table, her boyfriend and I found our way to the bar for more alcohol.  Then we explored.  It's a nice casino.. not a lot of table games though, tons of slots, which I will never understand.  The casino is built right next to the Kansas Speedway though, so it makes it special.  You could say.  Anyway 3 hours later, some money gone and a good buzz going we vacated.
My lovely BFF Kara!
[Wish y'all could see my outfit.. it was CUTE.  But it left my skin purple, which is not so awesome.. lesson learned though.. WASH EVERYTHING.]
Once we got outside it was raining.. and you know what, I didn't even care. :)  It was fabulous, all I could ever ask for. <3

I got countless birthday wishes all over the internet, so if you were one of them, please know I thank you from the bottom of my heart for thinking of me!

[[sorry if this post is choppy.. it's 3:30 in the AM but I was/am DETERMINED to get this up before going to bed tonight!]]

My next post will have the sparkly outfit reveal. ;)

Two years.

Two years ago today I walked into that little ole courthouse with my best friend, the love of my life and got married.  I can't believe its been that long at all even though it feels like FOREVER.

I've tried to figure out just what to say to express how I feel about the last two years but I honestly don't think words can describe what it feels like to be married to the one person that makes you feel like the luckiest girl in the world.  The one person that makes you happiest.  The one person that fills your heart with so much love.  The one person that reminds you what it means to be loved each and everyday.

I am so lucky to have found my one person.

I love you Rob!
Always and forever.

(Next R&R recap is coming up next post!)

Waiting Period.

So as many of you probably know that when you are dealing with the military you usually don't quite have a set in stone schedule for.. well.. anything.  Rob kept telling me what day he thought he would be here (which varied by up to two days..) so up until the Friday night before he got here I was planning for late Monday early Tuesday.. fast forward to Monday morning.  Of course I get a text about 30 minutes before he boards the plane from GA which is 6 hours earlier than expected which leaves me roughly an hour, to shower, get ready and try and finish the last minute dishes (BLAH STUPID DISHES.. DON'T EVEN GET ME STARTED..)  Then I left myself an hour to get up to the airport.. which is actually only like 45 minutes away.  But I didn't want to be late.. and was told many times not to be late.  After the mad rush I get to the airport with like 30 minutes (5 billion hours it seemed) to spare.  (I think SOMEONE told me that the plane would be getting there early to make sure that I was on time.  All I have to say is.. punk.)

I'm a professional at this whole waiting at the airport business for your loved one though so I sat down and checked my twitter and relaxed, well kind of (hubby and I dated long distance for over a year..).  Out of the corner of my eye I could see this lady who kept checking the monitor and pacing back and forth from the gate.  I knew almost instantly that she was another mil wife.  Sure enough, I asked her and she was.  Isn't it funny how you recognize the "military-spouse-about-to-be-reunited" symptoms?  And I must point out.. I was way calmer than she was.

Finally the plane lands and everyone files out.  Rob HAD to have been at the very back of the plane cause it took forever.  Then all at once he was there.  There was no fairy tale run, jump, spin in circles, kiss and say I love you.  We just aren't like that.  It was one long hug, a simple kiss and a lets get the heck out of here.  Just what I expected.

Reunited and it feels so good.
After Jose Peppers with my parents.

Then it was the long drive back to the apartment.  I knew there was a beautiful puppy dog waiting anxiously for his momma to get back.. cause I kept promising him I had the mother of all surprises for him.  Sure enough it was like this wonderful reunion.  I can't get over how hard Piston's butt was wiggling, how emotional the room was without even being emotional and how Piston quickly reattached himself to Rob's backside like he hadn't spent the last 7 months separated from us.

Excuse the wonderful iPhone quality.
As you can see P wiggled, a lot.

It was perfect.

And now back to regularly scheduled programs...

Are y'all still there?
I didn't lose you during the midst of that two week period, did I?

Well the plane has left.
The excitement gone.
The apartment left messy.
The exhaustion has set in.
The countdown re-started...

As a Facebook comment that just popped up on my phone reads..."If you've made it this far a few more months aren't going to take that long."  So true.  At least, I hope.

I've got blogs to catch up on.  New readers to visit (welcome to my nook of the world!).  Comments to respond to.  Two weeks worth of events to catch y'all up on.  But for now, a DVR full of girly shows to clean off and a fur baby that wants my loving.

Stay tuned my dears...

Amanda

A to Z!

A. Age: 22 as of 12 days ago!

B. Bed size: Queen.. for now.  Hopefully when our next Army adventure unfolds, wherever that may be, we will scrap the super low to the ground too small bed.  ESPECIALLY if Rob wants another boxer (okay.. so I do too!).. King for the win!

C. Chore that you hate: Dishes.  Especially right now because the dishwasher is broken.  I also hate laundry cause I have to lug it all the way down to the car.. over to the laundry place.. then either wait on it or make a million trips back and forth.. then lug it all back up.  By then I am usually exhausted so it sits in the hamper for awhile.. and days later I put it away.

D. Dogs: I love my dooooooogie!  He's my best friend.  Even though he is a spoiled rotten dog who thinks just because he is a purebred that cost his daddy an arm and a leg, he should get what he wants when he wants.  He has certainly opened my eyes to what being a parent is about.. thus we wait.
(Piston with his Aunt Erin (my sister).. he thinks he is a lap baby.. this was taken on my iPhone so excuse the quality!)

E. Essential start to your day: Hitting snooze.. many times.

F. Favorite color: Purple.. or pink.. or teal..

G. Gold or silver: Silver.  Definitely a silver girl.

H. Height: 5'5".

I. Instruments that you play: I don't.. I briefly attempted the flute in middle school.  I'd love to play the guitar though..

J. Job title: Receptionist.  Wife.  Fur baby's momma.

K. Kids: Piston.

L. Live: Kansas City.

M. Mother's name: Phyllis. :)
(my pretty Momma.. have I mentioned I have the best genes ever?  Need more proof:
and that's my Dad.  My sister and I are so lucky!)

N. Nicknames: Used to go by Critter a lot.. or just my maiden name, Ritter.

O. Overnight hospital stays: Never.  Thank the Lord.. **knock on wood**

P. Pet peeves: Bad drivers.  Know it all's.  Complainer-pants.

Q. Quote from a movie: Can't think of any.. all I can think of is Adele's song over and over again in my mind..

S: Siblings: One little seeeeeeester.. and she's not that little.  Hey Erin!  If you are reading this.  I also married into a tooooooon of siblings.. 3 on Rob's Mom's side and 6 on Rob's Dad's side.
(my sister!)
(Rob's siblings on his Dad's side.. minus the two little boys in the front on the left.. they are cousins.)

T: Travel favorite: I'm used to roadtrips as that is the way with my family.  :)  I tend to sleep though.  The WHOLE time.  When I fly I feel glamorous though.. bahaha.. don't ask me why.  I couldn't tell ya.

U. Underwear: What about them?

V. Vegetable(s) you hate: Brussel Sprouts.. thanks Mom.  Lima Beans.. thanks Mom.  Fried Cabbage.. thanks Mom.  I could go on.

W. What makes you run late: I blame the dog.. who always has to take an extra long trip outside before I leave.. and the fact that I live near an extremely busy intersection that can take a few minutes to get to the highway or FOREVER.  I most definitely DON'T blame myself. :)

X. X-rays you've had: Teeth.  Hips.  Foot.

Y. Yummy food that you make: That I make?  Does macaroni and cheese count?

Z. Zoo animal: I always loved the sea lions growing up..

Amanda

How to Get Through a Deployment Janey's Way!

I am super excited to bring you this post today while I'm on temporary leave from the blogosphere.  Hands down the craftiest, busiest blogger going through a deployment I know is Janey.  Her posts always touch on something creative, serious, hilarious and 100% truthful about the Army.  Residing in Hawaii (aren't we all jealous??) and nearing the finish line of her own hubby's deployment she managed to squeeze some time in to write a very truthful post about how to survive deployments.. so grab your wine (not kidding my glass is right in front of me..) and don't forget to hop on over to Janey's blog A Few of My Favorite Things...
I'm Janey from A Few of My Favorite Things, a newlywed Army spouse surviving my husband's first deployment. In the military spouse world there seem to be a few queries that we all get, the most common being a version of the question, “How do you do it?” in regard to getting through your spouse’s deployments. Replying, “I don’t really have a choice now do I?” doesn’t seem to be a warm, wise, or understanding answer, which got me thinking, really how do we do it?
5. Wine
Just call me wino. That magic happy juice keeps me from worrying so that much I break down crying hysterically every time I’m at the commissary and see someone in uniform. Besides, it’s made out of fruit so it’s healthy. Really. You can look it up. (Okay, don’t actually look it up.)
4. Friends
These are the individuals that are right there along with you in the happy wine juice drinking department. They reassure each other this is normal adult behavior while inviting each other to as many Scentsy, 31 Bags, CaBi Clothing, Lia Sophia Jewelry, Pampered Chef, Amway, Mary Kay, Jamberry Nails, and Passion parties as humanly possible. Anything to make the days speed by.
3. Family
You know, those cool people that, even when you do call crying hysterically because you forgot to take your daily dose of happy wine juice and went into the commissary and saw a happy little family, listen patiently and help pull you through. (Yes? Someone else relate to this?) Well, it’s those people who still answer your calls after that ordeal no matter the time difference (“Really, it’s 4 am there? I had no idea”). I would be lost without family.
2. Faith
Getting a little serious here on this one, but in all honesty it’s a big one - a little faith. It doesn’t matter if that is God, Yahweh, Allah, Ra the Sun God, Mother Nature, or Chuck Norris. Just, knowing there is something a greater purpose; an infinite wisdom in the midst of this chaos can get you through the hard nights.
1. Your Soldier
A big ole fat duh. None of us would do it if it weren’t for the man or woman we are waiting for. None of us would go through the stress and heart break if that person wasn’t worth every once of fear and hope, every second of missing, every moment of that and more.
Always,
Amanda
